System Scaffolding

Turner Access has been involved in manufacturing System Scaffolding for over 25 years. Our ongoing commitment to provide industry with safer and more efficient Access product solutions is backed by a highly experienced research, product design and development team.

Our Contracts division, which is supported by a specialist in house application design department, has been involved in all aspects of System Scaffolding use within most industry sectors and in many countries.

We have been independently judged as best in class on that subject by Sir Michael Latham and an independent panel of Construction judges 3 out of the last 6 years.

Turner Access achievements with Access & System scaffolding have been significant.

The Fastest Scaffold System in the World:

In 1994, a two man crew erected 100m² of System Scaffold in 19 minutes 59 seconds, registered in the “Guinness Book of World Records”. The speed of the System has real benefits for the scaffolding operative who can enjoy complete safety without sacrificing on speed, resulting in maximized productivity.

The Longest Continuous Access Platform:

Turner Access can claim what ranks amongst the World’s longest continuous access platforms achieved through use of Safespan®, a unique cable suspended working platform and shielding system used predominantly for bridge maintenance and repair.

Safespan® provided two complete access platforms, each approximately a full Kilometre long x approximately 35m in width (70,000m²), and suspended under the M1 Motorway and below the A631 on the 2 tier Tinsley Viaduct, Sheffield.

Turner Access, using Safespan® and System Scaffolding, were integral in the project winning RoSPA awards, a WWT (Working Well Together) award, and contributed significantly towards the year’s ‘Quality in Construction’ awards for this project. In 2005, Turner Access was awarded the inaugural award for Access & Scaffolding Specialist of the Year at the Construction News Annual Specialists Awards.

Typical Safespan® applications include viaducts, offshore installations, marine under-deck refurbishment, roof access in factories, stations, hangars etc.

The Highest Freestanding Scaffold Structure:

Turner Access also claimed the record for the highest freestanding structure in clad scaffolding using System Scaffolding at the Niagara Gorge USA, where a 65m freestanding hexagonal structure was erected.

The American observation tower at Niagara Falls needed to be renovated. The work had to be completed during the winter when tourism was at its lowest, however; weather conditions are at their worst. It was only possible to do the work if the whole structure was covered and protected. The weather protecting structure could not be attached to the tower but had to be freestanding to allow the extensive work to be carried out inside.

Turner Access designed, manufactured, shipped and then were involved in erecting a remarkable six-sided structure. Each corner provided an extremely stable and structurally strong column due to the unique design capabilities of the System. The columns were connected with parallel one-metre widebays. Strength and security was achieved in the corners with triangles connected on the same plan bracing plane.

We believe this provides Turner Access with a credible basis for claiming that we can offer educated and experienced advice, which most importantly can be impartial due to the unique variation in products and support services that we offer. In other words, our aim is always to advise the safest most efficient System solution. Our solutions guarantee two things:-

  1. Identification of areas of cost saving
  2. Improvement suggestion in relation to health & safety and corporate sustainability in general

We offer Access & Scaffolding evaluation of any Industrial Site. We produce a report which not only recommends the most appropriate equipment solution but provides the detailed justification. Equipment solutions include:

  • Modular Steel System Scaffolding
  • Modular Alloy System Scaffolding
  • Frame Steel System Scaffolding
  • Frame Alloy System Scaffolding
  • Mobile Scaffold Systems
  • Cable suspended Systems for large areas
  • Cable suspended Systems for small areas
  • Mobile Suspended systems
  • Powered Access Systems
  • Heavy Duty Shoring Systems
  • Low level access systems
  • Specifically designed access Systems
  • Fall Prevention systems

Our approach is, therefore, different from others geared only to selling system product they either produce or supply. At Turner Access we are focussed on providing the customer only what is indeed best for them and their purpose. If we don't have what is best for you, we tell you where and from whom you get it! And at what price you should pay. Clients have nothing to lose; only cost savings and safety improvement to gain.
